The authorities in Mozambique announced on Saturday that the death toll from Cyclone Chido had risen to at least 76 dead and more than 500 injured.
The National Institute for Risk and Disaster Management in the southern African country said that the hurricane, which caused widespread destruction in Mayotte, the small French archipelago located in the Indian Ocean, destroyed nearly 62,000 homes in Mozambique, leaving, in addition to its victims, more than 380,000 affected.

A previous toll reported that 45 people were killed as a result of this massive hurricane, whose wind speed reached 260 kilometers per hour and caused 250 millimeters of rain within 24 hours.
