Jamal Suleiman: The Syrian people are happy to get rid of Assad, and tolerance does not cancel accountability

Syrian artist Jamal Suleiman said that the Syrian people are happy to be rid of what he described as a “fugitive tyrant.” Bashar al-Assad.

Jamal Suleiman saw that time has proven that Syrians have the tremendous ability to build and triumph over circumstances, no matter how harsh they are, adding: “And in order to… We are moving towards a future that we all dream of and that we deserve. We must be hand in hand, and this requires the greatest amount of tolerance.” Then he quickly corrected: “But tolerance does not cancel Accountability. The criminals who shed the blood of Syrian men and women must be tried for their crimes.”
Jamal Suleiman pointed out that the Syrian people are diverse: “We are diverse, but we must consider our diversity as a tool of distinction and strength, not a tool of division and rivalry. This is what must be reflected in any future constitution or authority in Syria,” adding: “Dignity, freedom, democracy, citizenship, the rule of law, and the rejection of discrimination are the concepts that constitute the umbrella under which we will gather, not only for our sake, but for the sake of our children and grandchildren.”
Running for the presidency. Jamal Suleiman, the well-known Syrian artist, recently topped the search engine and the most popular topics, a few hours after announcing his intention to run for the presidency of Syria, as he said: Suleiman, during a televised interview, to comment on the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, said that he has the intention of running for the presidential elections in Syria.
The Syrian artist is widely known for his Egyptian drama The Syrian actor, who was famous for presenting the character of Al-Saidi in Egyptian drama, explained that if he did not find the right person to run for president and the Syrians expressed their desire to nominate him, he would agree to that. He said: “I expressed previously when I was asked this question that I have this desire and would like to run if not I find a suitable candidate, whether a man or a woman.”
He continued: “I want to break this taboo that the regime has planted, which is that no one has the right to run for president.” Or to the ministry and that only the regime can decide that.”
Jamal Suleiman had declared his opposition to the Syrian regime after the outbreak of the revolution and his support for the opposition in 2011. He left Syria for Egypt after threats against him and his family, after which he joined the Syrian opposition coalition and withdrew from it. Later, he began to present himself as an independent oppositionist who does not belong to any party.
Jamal Suleiman married in 2003 to Rana Muhammad Salman, the daughter of the former Syrian Minister of Information, and he has one son named "Muhammad" In 2009, he had two marriages before her, his marriage to the Syrian actress Wafaa Moussalli, but they separated after eight years. He married the journalist Qamar Amraya, and the marriage lasted only twenty-four hours.
Jamal Suleiman was born in the capital, Damascus, specifically. In the Bab Sreja neighborhood, and a family consisting of nine siblings, he worked in more than one profession during his childhood, including blacksmithing, carpentry, decoration, a car wash, and printing when he was seven years old, even on Eid days. At the request of his father, believing that work would make him a man, at the age of fourteen his inclinations turned towards the theater and he practiced working there as an amateur actor. Then he joined the Syrian Artists Syndicate in 1981 and was dismissed in 2015 by the decision of the Artists Syndicate’s head, Zuhair Ramadan, and his referral to a disciplinary council.
