UAE government launches "Data pointer"

Dubai, December 23 / WAM / The UAE government launched the “Data Index”, which was designed in accordance with the best international practices and standards in the field of statistics and data management, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of government performance and measuring progress in national data governance.

The indicator, which was designed within the framework of an integrated plan in cooperation between the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics and the Prime Minister’s Office in the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, is a major standard to enable federal government agencies to manage and make available high-quality data and statistics with global standards, within the data and digital government axis in the “Adaa” system. “.

The index was launched during an event organized by the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics, with the participation of 120 data specialists representing 35 federal government agencies concerned with providing high-quality data within the data and digital government axis in the government “Adaa” system.

This launch comes in conjunction with the “Unified Emirates Numbers” project, which was launched recently with the aim of developing and strengthening the national statistical system, supporting the country’s progress in various economic, demographic, social, environmental and other fields, enhancing transparency and efficiency in government work in data management, and achieving the UAE’s vision to be a leader. Globally in the field of employing data and statistics and supporting the decision-making process within three main axes, which are enabling the proactive economy, the axis of people and society, and the axis of the sustainable environment and renewable energies.

The launch of the “Data Index” reflects the UAE government’s commitment to promoting digital transformation and developing the efficiency of government work, and translates its trends in adopting the best advanced technologies and solutions in data governance and exchange processes while ensuring the preservation of its confidentiality and privacy.

His Excellency Mohamed Hassan, Executive Director of the Statistics and Data Science Sector at the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics, explained that the launch of the “Data Index” comes within the framework of the government’s directions to enhance the efficiency of government performance and measure progress in national data governance, as it is the language of the future, the use of which will effectively support radical transformations in data. Efficiency of services provided, management of resources, and confronting future global challenges, to chart a more prosperous and sustainable future.

He added that the “Data Index” will cover three main axes: governance of the regulatory and operational framework for data, applying best statistical practices to enhance the quality of government data, and working on digital transformation projects to manage all data production processes in the participating federal agencies, and ensuring its reliability, quality, and comprehensiveness, in order to use it to support data operations. Decision making at all levels.

Dr. Khalifa Al Habsi, Director of the Sectoral Strategies Performance Department in the Prime Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, said that the “data index” was developed by a team of national competencies in the Prime Minister’s Office in fruitful partnership with the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of government performance through… The “Adaa” system of the UAE government, to ensure the provision of high-quality data.

He added that the “Data Index” covers vital sectors in accordance with a regulatory framework consistent with international statistical methodologies, and serves the planning and development of national policies and legislation, decision-making and enhancing the country’s competitiveness. It is considered a pivotal tool that primarily enables federal agencies to manage the data inventory with high effectiveness.

The launch event included holding introductory sessions for participating entities, to learn about the requirements for measuring the government’s “Data Index” and its evaluation criteria, and to highlight the importance of data for effective contribution to supporting the achievement of the axes of the “We Are the Emirates 2031” vision, and enhancing the UAE’s position on the global competitiveness map.

The “Data Index” supports data governance, which represents a vital element in developing government performance and sustaining operations, through unified standards that allow the provision of reliable official data, as a basis for making effective strategic decisions and formulating public policies, ensuring compliance with national and international legislation related to privacy, and improving operational efficiency.
