The Philippines defends the deployment of a US missile system and seeks to acquire its own system

The Philippine Defense Minister on Tuesday justified the country’s deployment of an American medium-range missile system, saying: – Manila is planning to acquire its own system.

Secretary Gilberto Teodoro added in a statement, “Any deployment and purchase of assets related to… The security and defense of the Philippines falls within its sovereign prerogative and is not subject to any foreign veto.

He explained that the deployment of Typhoon missile assets for joint exercises is “legitimate, legal and flawless.” “Flawless,” according to the Philippine News Agency.

For his part, Philippine Army Commander Roy Galido said that there is a plan to obtain a missile system with medium-range capabilities, adding, “There are negotiations because we see its feasibility and adaptability.” As reported by the newspaper “Le Monde” French.

The Typhoon system, which can be equipped with cruise missiles, was introduced to joint exercises earlier this year between the Philippines and the United States.
