A rare incident.. A policeman was killed in Norway following an exchange of gunfire

Norwegian police announced on Saturday that one of its officers and a suspected gunman were killed after an exchange of gunfire at night in the Scandinavian country, where security personnel are rarely killed in the line of duty.
The last time a policeman was shot dead while working in Norway was in 2004, according to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK).

Case of armed threat

The police said that the fatal shooting occurred on Saturday in Klip near the city of Stavanger in southwestern Norway, and also resulted in the injury of another policeman.
Police were alerted to reports of an armed threat just after midnight on Saturday.

Two police officers and the suspected gunman, who was in his forties and was sitting in a car, were wounded in the exchange of fire.
One of the policemen, who was in his twenties, and the suspect died on Saturday from their severe injuries.

Rare accident

Fatal shootings targeting police are extremely rare in Norway and other Nordic countries.
“This is a very serious and tragic event that affects us all,” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Sture told the NRK network.
