On New Year’s Eve… Ukraine and Russia exchange blows

Ukraine and Russia launched strikes on Tuesday night, the eve of the New Year, as Kiev announced that it was targeted by 61 Russian missiles and drones, while Moscow said that it shot down 68 Ukrainian drones.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced that the Russian strikes particularly targeted the Sumy region (north), bordering Russia, in addition to the capital, Kiev.
It used six Iskander ballistic missiles, six guided missiles, eight cruise missiles, and a Kinjal hypersonic missile. Additionally, forty Shahed attack drones were launched at the country.

Ukrainian air defenses

The Air Force said that Ukrainian air defenses shot down the hypersonic missile, five guided missiles, and 16 drones. The Russian Ministry of Defense on Tuesday praised this attack, noting that it “achieved its goals.”
The ministry said in a statement, “This morning, the Russian Armed Forces launched a hybrid attack with precision weapons and assault marches on the infrastructure of a military airport and a facility belonging to a military-industrial complex that meets the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.”
On the other hand, a Ukrainian drone attack in western Russia caused a fuel leak and a fire in an oil warehouse, according to what Vasily Anokhin, the governor of the Smolensk region bordering Ukraine, said on Tuesday.
