According to local media, a volcano also erupted in the region after months of increasing seismic activity.
Local official Aden Bella told ABC TV that the volcanic eruption occurred at five-thirty in the morning on Friday (02:30 GMT) in the town of Seginto in Dolicha, Afar region.

The official added that smoke was no longer rising from the volcano, but lava continued to flow. He added that people were displaced with their livestock, without specifying their number.
This comes as the Addis Standard newspaper reported that the American Institute of Geophysics has recorded more than 67 earthquakes in the region since late September, mainly concentrated in the Fantali region, which is part of the main Ethiopian fault line.
