Europe rises up against Elon Musk and accuses him of inciting hatred.. What is the story?

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot urged the European Commission to act “as decisively as possible” to confront interference in European public affairs, especially by billionaire Elon Musk, hinting at the possibility of Paris taking action unilaterally.

While Musk, an advisor to US President-elect Donald Trump, repeatedly interferes in European politics through posts on his platform

X platform ban

Barrow responded to a question about the possibility of banning the “X” platform in Europe, as happened in Brazil, where the platform was blocked for 40 days, saying: “Our laws stipulate that.”

He added, “Either the European Commission applies as firmly as possible the laws we have put in place to protect our public space, or it does not, and therefore it must agree to return to the member states of the European Union, and to France, the ability to do so.”

“We have to wake up,” he added.

Elon Musk’s interventions

Elon Musk has been interfering forcefully in European political life for weeks, repeatedly spreading positions in support of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, and against British Labor Prime Minister Keir Starmer, through his “X” platform.

On Wednesday, Spanish Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez accused Elon Musk, without naming him, of “blatantly attacking our institutions,” “stirring up hatred,” and leading a “reactionary international” movement.

“He blatantly attacks our institutions, incites hatred and openly calls for support for the heirs of Nazism in the upcoming German elections,” Sanchez said during a speech he gave on the occasion of the start of commemorations for the death of dictator Franco and the advent of democracy in Spain 50 years ago.

Sanchez said Musk’s behavior poses “a problem and a challenge, which should motivate all of us who believe in democracy.”
