Scary numbers.. 2024 is the hottest year ever since statistics began

Temperatures continue to rise in an unprecedented scene in modern history, according to what the European Copernicus Observatory reported on Friday.
Over the past two years, average warming has exceeded the 1.5 degree Celsius threshold set by the Paris Agreement.

High temperatures

According to the observatory, it has become confirmed through the temperatures until December 31, that 2024 constitutes the hottest year ever since statistics began in 1850.
2025 is not expected to be a record year, but the British Meteorological Service has warned that this year is supposed to be one of the three hottest years on Earth.
Countries must announce new climate roadmaps, updated every five years within the framework of the Paris Agreement.

Global warming

According to the observatory, the year 2024 alone, as well as the average of 2023 and 2024, crossed the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming compared to the pre-industrial era.
The cause of climate change is historic floods that affected West and Central Africa, and violent hurricanes in the United States and the Caribbean.

The fires are currently affecting Los Angeles and are the “most destructive” in California’s history, while causing losses worth $320 billion around the world over the past year.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, containing warming to a threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius instead of 2 degrees Celsius, the upper limit set by the Paris Agreement, would significantly limit its most catastrophic consequences.

Ocean warming

The oceans, which absorb 90% of the excess heat caused by human activities, continue to warm. Average annual ocean surface temperatures – excluding the polar regions – have reached an unprecedented level of 20.87 degrees Celsius, surpassing the record of 2023.
Copernicus pointed out that the level of water vapor in the atmosphere reached a record level in the year 2024, exceeding its average for the period 1991-2020 by about 5%.
Last year also witnessed the end of the natural phenomenon of El Niño, which causes warming and the exacerbation of some extreme phenomena, and a transition towards neutral conditions or the adverse La Niña phenomenon.
