Elite world champions participate in the 2025 Dubai Marathon

DUBAI, 10 JANUARY / WAM / The organizing committee of the Dubai Marathon 2025 announced the participation of 63 elite world champion runners, record holders and winners of the most famous marathons in the world, in the 24th edition of the Dubai Marathon scheduled to start the day after tomorrow, Sunday, under the auspices of the Dubai Sports Council.

The marathon includes 3 races: the classic marathon of 42.195 km, in which elite runners participate, the 10 km race, and the 4 km family race.
The races will begin and end on Umm Suqeim Road near the Dubai Police Academy on Jumeirah Beach Road, passing through Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah.
This came during the press conference, held today, Friday, in the presence of Ali Omar, Director of Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, Ahmed Al Kamali, General Coordinator of the event, and Peter Connerton, General Manager of the Marathon.
The conference also witnessed the presence of 3 of the world’s most prominent marathon stars: Ethiopian Lelisa Desisa (35 years old), Dubai Marathon champion in 2013, Kenyan Dennis Kimetto (41 years old), the previous record holder (2:02:57) in the 2014 Berlin Marathon, and Ethiopian Deira. Dida is the 2023 Dubai Marathon champion.
A group of Paralympic champions also participated in the conference, most notably Briton Richard Whitehead, the world record holder in the marathon for athletes, and the gold medalist at the Paralympic Games in London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Ali Omar confirmed to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the Dubai Marathon has become one of the most important international races thanks to its continuity over 24 editions, which placed it at the forefront of the main destinations for marathon races. He said that the continuation of the event indicates the great confidence he has gained over the past years, in the presence of an elite group of runners, including world record holders and European and international championship champions, which adds another dimension to the competition.

Ahmed Al Kamali explained that the current edition will witness the participation of an international elite of runners, with more than 63 professional runners registered, including 44 men and a large number of women, which will make the competition strong.

He said that the presence of two different generations of runners, such as Desisa and Kimito, contributes to the unexpected excitement of competition, noting that registration will remain open until dawn on Sunday, when all streets in Dubai will be closed during the marathon period to ensure that the event is organized with the highest level of efficiency.
Peter Connerton expected that this year’s edition would witness the breaking of new records, noting the participation of a group of young Ethiopian runners in their first appearance on the international scene, which enhances the chances of the emergence of new names who achieve great achievements.
