المملكة: AlUla.. “The Witness Rock” campaign raises awareness of natural resources

The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate has launched a new campaign entitled “The Witness Rock,” which comes as a continuation of the “Our Legacy, Our Responsibility” campaign.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving rock formations, cultural and civilizational heritage, and historical sites, in community partnership with the people, and to shed light on the stories carved in the rocks, which carry an ancient history that tells tales of lost worlds, vanished oceans, and volcanic eruptions. Every rock in AlUla tells an ancient story, and brings back We have glimpses of the past, where the unique landscapes reflect the life of AlUla throughout the ages.

“Witness Rock” Campaign

The campaign showcases famous geological models, such as Elephant Rock and the Al Hajar site, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and points to natural areas such as the Sharaan Reserve, Wadi Nakhla and Harrat Awairid volcanic area, and invites everyone to contemplate the beauty of AlUla, its ancient buildings, and the importance of preserving its diverse natural heritage.

Some statistics indicate that the oldest rocks of AlUla date back approximately one billion years, and are considered one of the oldest evidence of the existence of life in Saudi Arabia, as they contain layers of fossilized microbial plates dating back about 600 million years. Heritage preservation

The mountains of the Old City date back about 500 million years, while the capital of Dadan was built about 3,000 years ago, and its residents used rock engravings to document their history in Mount Ikma. The “Witness Rock” campaign is a continuation of the ongoing campaigns and efforts provided by the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate, which have been embodied on the ground, reflecting the Commission’s deep commitment to preserving the nature and heritage of AlUla, which contributes to preserving this precious heritage for future generations.
