Launching the treatment guidelines document for multiple sclerosis in the UAE

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society in the UAE launched the treatment guidelines document for multiple sclerosis, which was developed by a specialized scientific team that included the Society’s Medical Advisory Committee, with the aim of providing the best medical support for people living with multiple sclerosis in the UAE.

The guidelines were used to formulate the “Ejada” health insurance program for multiple sclerosis patients by the Dubai Health Authority, and the guidance document was published on the website of the Medical Journal of Multiple Sclerosis and Associated Disorders (MSARD), an international journal supported by prominent researchers from all fields of neuroscience, and focusing on Multiple sclerosis and its related diseases, in tribute to the scientific value of the guidelines as a reliable treatment reference.

The treatment guidelines were formulated after an in-depth study of the best available international evidence, taking into account the characteristics of the multiple sclerosis community in the UAE, and also taking into account the wide variation in health care coverage and patient preferences.

The launch of the guidance document aims to ensure the provision of appropriate treatments for the largest number of multiple sclerosis cases in the country, and to address existing gaps in data that may affect health insurance coverage for people living with multiple sclerosis.


The MS Treatment Guidelines include reference to treatment options during pregnancy, breastfeeding and MS in children, which could support treatment for more people.

Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, said that the treatment guidelines for those diagnosed with multiple sclerosis are based on the best evidence currently available in the world, and are the first of their kind in the Emirates for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, and include detailed guidance for doctors about multiple sclerosis course-modifying therapies.

She added that developing treatment guidelines for multiple sclerosis is a pioneering effort, and their practical application by health authorities in the country gives them a strong impetus, facilitates their circulation among specialists in various treatment facilities in the country, and opens a door of hope for those newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and those living with it, especially as it highlights Shedding light on modern trends in treatment, such as the use of stem cells when people living with multiple sclerosis do not respond to multiple sclerosis pathway-modifying therapies.
