“Dubai Roads” expects a memorandum of understanding with “Uber Technologies” and “Weride” to start the operational experiments of self -driving vehicles

The Roads and Communications Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with Uber Technologies, Inc (NYSE: Uber), the largest technical platform for transportation and delivery in the world, and Weride (NASDAQ: WRD), globally pioneer in self -driving technology, according to which the operational trials of self -driving vehicles will start, which will enter into commercial implementation via via Uber platform in Dubai later this year, with a safety operator in the initial stage, in preparation for the launch of a fully driver’s trade service in 2026.

Field preparations are currently being conducted to operate the upcoming experiences, led by Uber and Weride, and with the support and guidance of the Roads and Transport Authority.
The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Communications Authority, Matar Al Tayer, and CEO of Business at Uber Mado Kanan, and Regional Director of the Middle East and Africa region at Weride, Ryan Zan, witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Authority and Uber, which was signed by the Authority’s Executive Director of the Public Transportation Corporation, Ahmed Hashem Behrozian, and on the authority of Uber, the Regional Director General of the East Region Al -Awsat and Africa, France Hemustra, and on the company Weride Weride, Director of Capital Markets and Corporate Development, Eric Dong in the presence of a number of officials from the Authority and the two companies.

Global platform
Matar Al -Tayer expressed his happiness at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Uber Technology and Weride, valuing the two parties to choose the city of Dubai to be the global platform for the expansion of self -driving vehicles.
Al -Tayer said: “The operation of self -driving vehicles in the Emirate of Dubai is embodied in a qualitative step towards the future of smart and sustainable movement, and achieving the vision of good leadership (may God protect it) in converting Dubai to the smartest city globally, as well as achieving the goals of the Dubai Self -Driving Strategy, aimed at converting 25% of the total travel trips in Dubai into self -driving trips through various transportation by 2030, stressing that signing the memorandum of understanding It contributes to the consolidation of the emirate’s location in the application of advanced and sustainable transport solutions, the application of high -development technologies, and the embrace of experiences for the application of innovative transition solutions. ”
Dubai World Leadership
He added: “Self -driving vehicles are an important step towards a more sustainable and safe future in the field of transport, and the Roads and Transport Authority seeks by expanding their global partnerships to operate different patterns of these vehicles, air taxi, marine transport and self -driving taxi vehicles, to enhance Dubai World leadership in the field of self -driving, and make it a favorite destination for investment in the areas of smart mobility and artificial intelligence, indicating Until the operation of self -driving taxis contributes to improving the quality of life for the residents and visitors of the Emirate of Dubai, raising the level of traffic safety, and achieving integration between transportation and transportation systems by facilitating the transfer of passengers of mass transportation, in addition to facilitating their access to their final destinations in line with the specialized strategy for the first and last tile.
The Director General explained that self -driving movement has become a fait accompli, and global companies accelerate the steps to develop technology and software related to the work of self -driving vehicles, while governments are represented in the concerned bodies, by licensing the operation of self -driving vehicles, to develop infrastructure, which self -driving vehicles need, and the development of legislation and laws regulating their operation.
Strategic cooperation
“We are working in Uber to build the future of technical movement, which will be electrically, participating and self -driving. We are pleased to sign our partnership with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority to expand our self -driving vehicles in the UAE by providing it within Dubai in 2025, in cooperation with Weide as the first technical partner.”
He added: “This strategic cooperation enhances our commitment to facilitating access to electric vehicles around the world, and we look forward to providing this experience to thousands of passengers in Dubai within a later time this year.”
