المملكة: The Greek Prime Minister visits the archaeological sites of Al-Ula

Today, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic of Greece, visited the historic Al-Hijr region in Al-Ula Governorate, which is the first Saudi heritage site to be registered on the list of the World Heritage, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
During which he viewed the most prominent monuments and archaeological sites dating back thousands of years and built during past eras.
The visit, during which he was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Medina Region, included the Minister of Commerce, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, the “Accompanying Minister,” the Acting CEO of the Royal Commission for Al-Ula Governorate, Abeer Al-Aql, and a number of officials from the Saudi and Hellenic sides. Al-Farid Palace, which is considered one of the most prominent ancient archaeological monuments in the Al-Hijr area in Al-Ula, as well as the archaeological site of Qasr Al-Bint, whose construction dates back to B.C.E.

Historical landmarks in AlUla

The tour also included a visit to Mount Athlab, which includes the Al-Diwan site, which is one of the historical landmarks in the northeastern Al-Hijr region.
It is considered a prominent archaeological landmark built to form an open theater between the nature and topography of Al-Hejar and its components, in addition to many ancient historical sites and evidence that abound in Al-Ula Governorate.
It is a destination for many tourists from different countries, and is cared for by the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate, the Ministry of Culture, the Saudi Tourism Authority, and various relevant authorities, to preserve its components as a human heritage that expresses the nature of AlUla, and the reality of human civilizations that have inhabited the region throughout the ages.
