“KFSH&S” and “Sukar” Association sign an agreement to enhance early detection of diabetes complications

In the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Khalid bin Al Faisal, Deputy Emir of the Medina Region, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and the Research Center in Medina signed a cooperation agreement with the Medina Diabetes Charitable Society “Sukar”, with the aim of enhancing early detection of diabetes complications on the retina using the latest Technologies, which contribute to improving treatment opportunities, reducing disease complications, and improving the quality of life of patients. The agreement stipulates that the hospital will receive cases with retinopathy, which is one of the most prominent causes of vision loss, in a step that comes in response to health needs. It is increasing in the Kingdom, as statistics indicate that 18% of the population suffers from diabetes, with high rates of complications such as retinopathy.

The agreement also includes unifying efforts between the two parties to provide advanced preventive solutions, including providing advanced health care services that enhance patients’ health, in accordance with the highest medical standards, and organizing workshops and training programs for medical and technical staff to improve the skills of dealing with the target group, in addition to raising the level of community awareness about Risks associated with diabetes.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Medina includes 400 beds, and provides services to the community of the Medina region and its environs in the specialties of pediatric and adult oncology, ophthalmology, and obstetrics and gynecology. It has also obtained 14 accreditations for training in various medical and nursing specialties.

It is noteworthy that King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center was ranked first in the Middle East and Africa, and 20th globally for the second year in a row, on the list of the best 250 academic health care institutions around the world, according to “Brand Finance” for the year 2024, and it was also included in the list of the best smart hospitals in the world. For the year 2025 by Newsweek magazine.
