The General Hospital team announced the death of actress Leslie Charlson, best known for her role as Monica Quartermaine, at the age of 79, after a career of nearly five decades in the series that made her an icon of television drama.

In an emotional statement published by executive producer Frank Valentini on the series’ official Instagram account, he said: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charlson.”

He added: “Just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaine family, Leslie was like a family matriarch to the entire cast and crew. We will miss her amazing intelligence and presence.”

Charlson began her career with General Hospital in 1977, and captured the hearts of viewers with the character of Monica, who went through prominent dramatic situations, including her battle with breast cancer and the loss of her children. Before that, she participated in works such as A Flame in the Wind and Love Is A Many Splendored Thing.

In recent years, Charlson has suffered from health challenges that affected her participation in the series. Despite this, her character remained an unforgettable part of the events. (Erm News)
