The institute said that 646,000 people died in France in 2024, an increase of 1.1 percent over the previous year, due to the baby boom generation reaching old age after World War II.
France’s population reached 68.6 million people on January 1, 2025, an increase of 0.25 percent in a year, and the institute said that migration flows added a net 152,000 people to the total population last year.
