Occupation legislation against the agency weakens the international response in Gaza

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, called on all parties to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement due to the need for rapid and continuous humanitarian access without obstacles.
He pointed out that UNRWA is ready to support the international response by expanding the scope of its operations, resuming education and providing health care.

Support and financing “UNRWA”

Commissioner Lazzarini warned in a press conference today that the Israeli Knesset’s legislation to end the role of UNRWA, which will enter into force in less than two weeks, greatly weakens the international response and exacerbates the catastrophic living conditions in the Gaza Strip.
Lazzarini explained that Israel’s claims of the possibility of transferring UNRWA services to other entities are incorrect, indicating that UNRWA’s mandate and ability to provide public services to the population in Gaza is unique, as it provides education and health care directly that exceeds the ability of any other entity.
