It lasted 5 hours… Details of the trial session of the deposed South Korean president

A court hearing ended on Saturday on whether an arrest warrant should be issued against deposed South Korean President Yeon Suk-yeol for imposing martial law for a short period.
The hearing in the Seoul West District Court lasted five hours in Yoon’s presence, and a convoy carrying Yoon to the detention center left, according to the South Korean Yonhap News Agency.
Yoon’s lawyers said he spoke for about 40 minutes to the judge during the hearing, which was conducted behind closed doors.

Anti-Corruption Agency

The defense team and the anti-corruption agency made opposing arguments about whether he should be detained, and the lawyers did not share his specific statements, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
During the session, Yoon asked the court to release him, according to AP, and his appearance before the West Seoul Regional Court caused chaotic scenes in the nearby streets.
Thousands of his enthusiastic supporters gathered for hours demanding his release, and clashed with the police, who detained about 40 protesters, including 20 who climbed a fence to try to approach the court.

The trial of the Korean president

At least two vehicles carrying investigators from anti-corruption agencies were damaged as they left the court after they presented reasons for Yoon’s arrest, according to the AP agency.
“The president explained, and answered honestly, regarding the facts, evidence and legal issues,” Yoon’s lawyer, Yoon Jab-geon, told reporters outside the court, adding, “We will wait calmly for the court’s decision.”
The court is expected to issue or reject the formal arrest warrant against him late Saturday or early Sunday.
