“Cybersecurity” confronts daily cyber attacks launched by terrorist groups from 14 countries

The Cyber Security Council of the UAE Government revealed that the cyber attacks that targeted strategic sectors in the country amounted to more than 200,000 terrorist cyber attacks per day issued by cyber terrorist groups in about 14 countries. All of them were monitored, their identity and the launching sites of their cyber attacks were accurately determined, and they were deterred and confronted. According to the latest international methods in this field.

The Council explained that the ongoing terrorist cyber attacks targeted a number of strategic sectors, led by the government sector by 30%, the financial and banking sector by 7%, the education sector by 7%, the technology sector by 4%, and the aviation and hospitals sector by 8% equally, while the rest of the sectors took over. Contains 44% of all terrorist cyber attacks.

The Council indicated that terrorist cyber attacks varied between attacks on information technology and infrastructure, which accounted for 40% of the total attacks, followed by attacks on file sharing by 9%, and attacks on database vulnerabilities by 3%, pointing out that persistent threat groups known as Blackcat accounts for 51% of ransomware attacks.

The Council explained that the national cyber systems identified the types of recurring cyber attacks, as the wrong setup accounted for 27% of the total attacks, malware accounted for 22%, scanning and entry attempts accounted for 15%, unauthorized entry accounted for 15%, and phishing accounted for 10%. Illegal and web attacks by 11%.

The Cyber Security Council identified the most dangerous hacking methods and discovered threats that targeted the main sectors of the state and were dealt with efficiently and professionally. They varied between denial of service attacks targeting peripheral devices and accounted for 39% of the total terrorist cyberattacks, encryption and data leakage attacks at 37%, and application hacking attacks. Online at 24%, ransomware at 7% and other attacks at 11%.

The UAE Government Cyber Security Council announced that the national cyber systems responded to the malicious “ransomware” attacks, which targeted a number of strategic sectors in the country, from both the government and private sectors, with the aim of leaking data and locking down digital systems.

The Council explained that recent and complex hacking attempts were monitored, which turned out to be supported by artificial intelligence techniques, which is one of the most prominent modern challenges targeting digital infrastructure. The continuous rise in cyber threats using artificial intelligence techniques was also monitored, and not just in deep fakes or social engineering. Rather, it has increased its pace by using artificial intelligence to improve malware, including ransomware.

The Council expected that this year would witness the continuation of cyber attacks with the adoption of modern and advanced technologies by the parties, which vary between traditional attacks such as phishing and social engineering to modern cyber attacks that use artificial intelligence, which are more complex and difficult to monitor except with more modern technologies.

The Council stressed the need for all government and private agencies to comply with cybersecurity standards to ensure that they are avoided being exposed to such malicious cyberattacks.
