Trump arrives at the Capitol to begin his inauguration ceremony

US President Donald Trump entered the Congress headquarters in Washington on Monday as part of his inauguration ceremony to take the constitutional oath to become the forty-seventh president of the United States.

Republican Trump will swear to protect the Constitution under the dome of the building in which his supporters tried on January 6, 2021 to prevent the victory of his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, from being certified.

An official in the new US administration told reporters on Monday that Donald Trump intends to issue executive orders in his capacity as president that would end the right to obtain citizenship by birth in the United States and end the right to seek asylum.

“We will end the right to asylum,” the official said, “which means immediate deportation without the possibility of asylum. We will then end birthright citizenship.”

Donald Trump also intends to declare a state of emergency at the border with Mexico, where the US army will play a key role, according to what an official in the next administration revealed Monday.

The official said, “We will declare a state of emergency at the border. The executive order will direct the army to give priority to the border and territorial integrity.”
