Venice raises banners against a famous media before her luxurious wedding: There is no place for the wealthy here

The upcoming wedding of US billionaire Jeff Bezos and his media fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, turned into the axis of protests in the Italian city of Venice, after local residents and activists expressed their rejection of the event, which they considered a symbol of turning their city into a “private resort for the wealthy”.

Amid preparations for the ceremony, which is expected to take place between 24 and 26 June in the presence of about 200 prominent personalities from all over the world, anti -wedding protests have emerged in the streets of Venice.

A local group called “No Space for Bezos” put a huge banner on a bell tower overlooking Lake Venice, in which a picture of Bezos is flattened with a red brand, as an expression of its opposition to hosting the wedding in the historical city. In a post on Facebook, the group confirmed its full rejection of the event, saying: “Bezos is not welcome in Venice or anywhere else.”

Although the group later removed the banner in preparation for the organization of protests against the ceremony, the message strongly reached local and international public opinion.

Activists expressed their fear that this type of luxury events will contribute to enhancing the phenomenon of privatization of public places in Venice, which mainly suffers from the problems of overcrowding and the high costs of living for the local population.

In its statement, the anti -group stressed that “Venice is not for sale and should not be leased to those who pay more.”

On the other hand, the municipality of Venice attempted to reassure the angry population, stressing that the ceremony will not cause any damage to the city, but rather will return with great economic benefits. The mayor, Luigi Bronniero, stated last March that the event may generate millions of dollars in the city. (Fuchsia)
