Al-Youm tours the Biennale of Islamic Arts exhibition two days before its opening

Al-Youm’s lens wandered through the corridors of the Biennale Exhibition for Islamic Arts on a special tour before its launch the day after tomorrow, Saturday, January 25. The exhibition will continue until May 25.
Al-Youm monitored collectibles dating back hundreds of years and unique Islamic artworks distributed in 7 sections: The Beginning, the Collected Orbit, the Noble Canopy, and the Prayer Room.
This is in multiple showrooms and outdoor spaces covering an area of ​​more than 100,000 square meters in the pilgrims’ lounge at King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah.

Participation of 20 Saudi and local artists

This edition of the Biennale witnesses the display of many new artworks produced on special commission from the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, and these works were produced by more than 20 artists from the Kingdom, the Arab world, and the rest of the world.

The list of participating artists includes many prominent names, such as Nour Judeh, Sharui Tsai, and Fatima Abdul Hadi, which indicates the Foundation’s endeavor to highlight Saudi artists at the global level, and attract artists from all over the world to the Kingdom, so that local and international audiences can get to know them. The latest and most important artistic practices and diverse perspectives in contemporary art.

500 historical artifacts

The acting director of the Islamic Arts Biennale, Wijdan Reda, explained that the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, under the title “And What’s in Between,” includes more than 500 historical artifacts and contemporary works of art under 7 sections, including the beginning section, which symbolizes historical collectibles and pieces from the Two Holy Mosques. .

She added: There is the Orbit section, which highlights dialogue and cooperation with more than 30 international and local cultural institutions, and there is the Collectors section, which contains an art collection for the Equestrian and Al Thani Foundation, the Umbrella section, and two pavilions for Mecca and Medina, and there is also the Al-Musalla Prize, which is announced for the first time.
She pointed out that the biennale site was built in the pilgrims’ hall in a well-known headquarters as a gateway to the Two Holy Mosques for pilgrims and visitors, and through these spaces they are received from various countries of the world to learn about the various Islamic cultures.
