(UNRWA): Israel believes that the disappearance of the agency in turn eliminates the idea of Palestinian asylum

The director of the regional office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip, Enas Hamdan, confirmed that Israel is continuing its systematic campaigns against UNRWA and spreading misleading information about the agency, believing that if it is dismantled or its services are reduced, it will cancel its “asylum” status. ; About the Palestinians, although these laws exist separately.
Enas Hamdan said – in an intervention to the “Nile” channel: Al-Akhbariya, today, Sunday – “Everyone knows the importance of UNRWA as it is an institution that provides relief, medical and educational services to the Palestinians, whether in the Gaza Strip or in many areas, for 70 years.” She stressed that the idea The absence of UNRWA in East Jerusalem contradicts obligations to international laws, all of which affirm the privileges and immunity of United Nations facilities, adding that the absence of UNRWA does not harm the status of Palestinian asylum, Because it exists separately from the rest of the decisions, but it will harm the provision of basic relief services to Palestinian refugees, as we have hundreds of thousands of refugees in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
She explained that there are more than two million citizens in the Gaza Strip who depend on UNRWA services, and if UNRWA leaves, as Israel aspires, this will contradict all obligations and deprive many citizens of obtaining relief aid.
She continued: “UNRWA provides more than 50% of food aid to the population in the Gaza Strip, and more than 63% of basic health services, despite all the circumstances that the agency went through, including the bombing of its facilities and the exposure of its employees, as up to this moment we have lost approximately 266 employees during war, and we still provide our services to citizens in the Gaza Strip.”
Enas Hamdan pointed out that although the truce had brought about a breakthrough in introducing… Aid to the Gaza Strip, but there is still an urgent need for aid, because Gaza witnessed a brutal war that lasted 15 months and left many disasters, whether for citizens or for buildings, infrastructure and the health system. Therefore, conditions in the Strip are still difficult and there is a long way to recover from the effects of that war.
Israel’s decision to request that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees leave occupied Jerusalem by January 30 has sparked widespread controversy and concerns at the regional levels. And the international community because of its serious repercussions on the situation of the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
