Thousands demonstrate in Greece to demand justice to the victims of a train accident

More than 40,000 people demonstrated in Athens and the Saloniki city in northern Greece today, Sunday, to demand justice to the families of the 57 victims who died in the year 2023 in a train accident, the worst of its kind in the country’s history.
Police said that more than 30,000 participated in a march in the capital, Athens, and 16,000 in the second largest city in the country.

Before the midnight of February 28, 2023, a train that was less than 350 passengers and heads from Athens to Saloniki collided with a shipping train 350 km north of the capital, killing 57 people, most of them students.
The two trains were traveling in two directions opposite on the same railway a 19 -minute, without activating any warning system.

Human mistake

At the time, it was considered that the accident was caused by defective equipment and human error, and was charged with the head of the train station near the site.
But according to information leaked this week from a report by experts prepared by the families of the victims, the shipping train was loaded with an illegal shipment of chemical explosives, which led to the death toll.
