Washington tightens sanctions on Cuba

On Friday, the United States tightened its sanctions on Cuba, a policy that began as soon as Donald Trump returned to the White House, and specially imposed restrictions on some financial transactions.
Immediately after his inauguration on January 20, US President Cuba returned to the list of countries that support terrorism, days after the previous Joe Biden administration removed it from them as part of an agreement to release political prisoners.
In a statement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the same son of Cuban immigrants and strong opponents of the Cuban Communist Government, announced on Friday that the United States will re -set up a list of Cuban entities subject to US financial sanctions.
Rubio said that all the previously involved entities will be re -included in addition to the Orbit Company to treat money transfer, which Washington is suspected of being linked to the Cuban army.
Rubio explained that the goal is to “deprive the branches of the Cuban regime that suppress the Cuban people directly while controlling large sectors of the country’s economy.”
American Cubans send millions of dollars to the island every year, providing a basic source of criticism of the faltering economy.
During his first presidency from 2017 to 2021, Trump reflected the policy of openness towards Cuba, which was started by his democratic predecessor Barack Obama.
The United States has imposed an economic ban on Cuba for decades.
