Greece .. ongoing ground tremors pushing the residents of Santorini to leave

Greek media reported today, Tuesday, that hundreds of slight and medium tremors that have shook the Santorini island over the past 12 days have caused more than a third of the 16,000 people of the island to the mainland, in anticipation of a large earthquake soon.

Alarm

Several earthquakes were recorded again during the night, with a severity of 4.9 degrees on the Richter scale, and earthquakes usually do not pose a threat to the inhabitants of the island, but the recent seismic series has put the famous tourist destination at a maximum alert.

Residents scrambled to buy ferry and aircraft tickets to search for a safer land, airlines prepared private flights and navigation companies sent additional phrases.

A larger earthquake coming

Seismologists in Greece expect a larger earthquake at some point, and its intensity is likely to range between 5.5 and 6 degrees, and they said that if the earthquakes occur in this range, the risks will be relatively low, as the homes are weak that will be primarily at risk. Nevertheless, an earthquake measuring 7 or more can cause widespread damage.
