Egypt maintains the lead and wins the fastest fixed internet award in Africa

& nbsp; Egypt won a fastest fixed internet award in the African continent in 2024 from & quot; Okla & quot; International (OKLA) is the leader in the field of measuring and evaluating internet speeds.

& nbsp;

& nbsp; The award is received by Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, during the celebration held by & quot & quot; International on the sidelines of the activities of the International Mobile Exhibition (MWC 2025) held in Barcelona, ​​Spain.

& nbsp;

& nbsp; Dr. Amr Talaat stressed that the provision of telecommunications and the Internet services is one of the main potentials in implementing Egypt’s digital strategy and a basic pillar for building the digital economy, noting that the efforts made in developing digital infrastructure continued throughout the Republic to improve the quality of telecom and Internet services provided For citizens.

& nbsp; He added that a project is currently being implemented with the aim of replacing the copper cables on the optical fiber cable network in the villages of Karima in the Egyptian countryside to develop high -speed internet services for about 60 million citizens in about 4500 villages, explaining that 3.5 billion dollars were invested in the development of digital infrastructure, which contributed to double the average fixed internet speed within 7 years to rise from 5.4 Mbps in December 2017 to 80.3 Mbps in January 2025, these efforts also resulted in Egypt’s forefront to arrange the average fixed internet speed at the level of the African continent over the course of more than 3 & nbsp; Years.
