The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced today, Monday, the end of a military operation to fight groups loyal to former President Bashar al -Assad, after the worst wave of violence since the opposition forces took control of power three months ago.
The clashes resulted in the killing of more than a thousand people, most of them civilians, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
“Public institutions are able to start resuming their work and provide basic services to our people in preparation for the return of life to normal and work to consolidate security and stability,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense Hassan Abdel -Ghani Ali X.
On Sunday, the Syrian transitional president pledged to pursue those involved in violence and hold accountable those who exceed the authority of the new state.
The Presidency of the Syrian Republic said that the president decided to form an independent committee to investigate the clashes and killings.
Abdel -Ghani explained that the security forces will fully cooperate with the investigation committee in revealing the circumstances and fairness of the oppressed.
