Emirates and South Sudan organize a “humanitarian visit” to the Gurum refugee camp in Juba

The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of South Sudan, with international participation, led a high -level humanitarian visit to the Gurum refugee camp in Juba, in confirmation of solidarity with the displaced societies that had to escape conflicts in neighboring countries, including Sudanese refugees.
The visit was chaired by Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and was accompanied by high -ranking officials from South Sudan.
She also participated in the visit, high -ranking delegations from several countries, including Portokan Ayano, Minister of State at the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, regional organizations and humanitarian agencies, as well as ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps in South Sudan, where ways to enhance the humanitarian response were discussed and long -term solutions for refugees were discussed. The participants also distributed food aid to the camp’s residents.
The visit coincided with the “Zayed Day for Humanitarian Action” that it celebrates in the UAE on the 19th of Ramadan every year, which reflects the values of the UAE in giving, tolerance and coexistence, as the efforts of the UAE’s relentlessness continues to support the weak and relief of the afflicted, and continues to send food and relief assistance to all parts of the world that culminate in the diplomacy of goodness and its position as the capital of humanity.
On March 7, 2025, the UAE opened, Madhoul Field Hospital in the northern state of Bahr al -Ghazal, southern Sudan, and it is an attached with a capacity of 100 beds that include specialized clinics, and serves about two million people, including host societies and returning from South Sudan and Sudanese refugees.
Providing medical services for Sudanese refugees
The hospital aims to meet urgent health needs, especially in areas that suffer from limited medical services, and this is the third hospital that the UAE constructs to provide medical services for Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries, where two field hospitals in the cities of Ammansas and Abrach in Chad dealt with about 90 thousand cases.
He said that since its foundation, humanitarian support and the protection of civilians, especially patients, children, the elderly and women, formed a major axis in the directions of the UAE and adopt an approach that gives priority to civilian demands and addresses their needs.
He also stressed the firm commitment of the UAE to support the efforts made to address this catastrophic crisis, and to collective work with regional and international partners to ensure stability and peace for the brotherly Sudanese people.
He added: “We did not pledge during the high -level humanitarian conference for the people of Sudan – the first conference on Sudan to be held this year to determine the path of the upcoming conferences that will be held to help the Sudanese people – to provide 200 million dollars during the conference merely a declaration, but rather an invitation to move and international participation,” noting that since the outbreak of the crisis, the UAE has provided 600.4 million dollars as humanitarian aid, bringing its total support to the brotherly Sudanese people during the past decade to 3.5 billion dollar.
The UAE has also made 160 aircraft carrying relief supplies, as well as 12,000 tons of food and medical supplies and relief materials.
Menghar Boung, Deputy Minister of Interior in the Republic of South Sudan, stressed that the UAE has confirmed a firm commitment to supporting the Sudanese people, and the organization of this high -level humanitarian visit to the Gurum refugee camp in the city of Juba, South Sudan, embodies the United Arab Emirates’s keenness to enhance international cooperation and joint work to enhance the humanitarian response provided to refugees and displaced persons and meet their basic needs.
He said: “We all realize during this meeting the size of the challenges facing refugees and displaced people in southern Sudan, who urgently need human support at various levels, there are cases that need medicines and medical treatments to protect their lives, and we are also distressed because of the inability of many of these refugees and displaced people to celebrate the atmosphere of the blessed month of Ramadan because of the continued conflict in Sudan and the inability to enforce humanitarian aid to them in a way Sufficient. ”
Humanitarian visit
For its part, the Ethiopian Minister of State at the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the beginning of her speech, thanked the UAE and South Sudan for organizing this humanitarian visit, which all gave us the opportunity to closely see the tragic conditions that refugees and displaced people are now suffering in the month of Ramadan.
She added: “What we see now is painful, and we must all work for them and show sympathy with them. There is nothing more painful than seeing the elderly, mothers and children displaced than their war’s homes, and they lost their normal lives without any sin.
She emphasized that we also need to think about refugees and displaced people in various areas who live in miserable situations.
She expressed her deep gratitude to participate in this initiative, stressing her country’s commitment to continuing to work with regional and international partners to provide the necessary humanitarian support for refugees and displaced persons.
She renewed her thanks to the UAE for providing sustainable humanitarian support for refugees and displaced persons, and to the government of South Sudan for providing them with shelter, stressing its keenness to continue working to alleviate their burdens and provide all possible forms of support to them.
For his part, Mandy Samaya Komba, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in South Sudan, welcomed all the attendees in the city of Juba, thanks and appreciation to the UAE for its support for the Gurum refugee camp in a gesture that reflects the importance of enhancing the values of global solidarity and synergy and extending a helping hand to peoples who suffer from conflicts and emergency crises.
He pointed out that the crisis in Sudan led to the displacement and resort of about 1.1 million people to neighboring countries, which requires everyone to work in hand in order to extend a helping hand to all and contribute to meeting their basic needs to alleviate their suffering.
