A Turkish court to imprison the mayor of Istanbul on corruption charges

A Turkish court sentenced the mayor of Istanbul, Akram Imamoglu, who was tried on the backdrop of corruption.
Istanbul’s detained mayor has strongly denied allegations regarding the charges against him, while protests continued due to the investigation of the popular Turkish politician on Saturday.
Imamoglu said in a statement issued by the administration of his city, after the police interrogated: “The unethical accusations against me against me to undermine my position and credibility.”
He denied the charges and said that it is based on “fabricated” reports.
The political opponent of the ruling party in Türkiye was detained last Wednesday, which sparked night demonstrations worldwide.
The accusations include belonging to a criminal organization, bribery, fraud, tampering with bids and support for the PKK, according to Turkish Anatolia News Agency.
