المملكة: The first in the Arab world .. launching a shedding care program for young adults and youth

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center launched the “Palfation Welfare Care and Youth” initiative, the first program of its kind in the Arab world; In order to provide integrated care aimed at improving the quality of patients’ life during their treatment trip.
The World Health Organization estimates that only 14% of patients who need fatal care in the world are already receiving, which reflects the enormous gap in this field, and scientific studies confirm that integration of palliative care in the treatment of young people with incurable diseases; It contributes to reducing the symptoms associated with the disease, improving the quality of their lives, and cancer patients are among the most in need of this type of care, as many of them do not get enough support to relieve pain and deal with the psychological impact of the disease.

Palliative care

Palliative care is defined as a comprehensive medical approach that aims to improve the quality of life for patients with diseases that reduce the quality of life, such as advanced cancer, heart disease, nervous system and chronic organic failure, and this type of care is not limited to relieving pain, but extends to include psychological and social support, improving patient experience, and supporting them in making medical decisions that are most appropriate for their condition.
In the case of young adults and youth with such diseases, palliative care takes an additional dimension, and takes into account the challenges they face, such as continuing studying or working during treatment, and providing psychological support that helps them adapt to the disease, in addition to providing flexible therapeutic options that maintain their independence and dignity.

The pioneering initiative launched by the specialist depends on an integrated medical team that includes doctors specializing in palliative care, and nurses trained to deal with the needs of young patients, in addition to social workers and mental health experts, to ensure comprehensive care that deals with physical, psychological, social and spiritual challenges facing patients and their families.
To present a list of a list that is in line with the highest international standards, the advanced fellowship program for threshold care in King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center obtained the first triple accreditation in the Arab world, by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, the European Association for Oncology, and the International Association for Palfation Welfare, which aims to qualify medical staff that will lead to provide palliative care for young adults and youth, what It raises the quality of care provided and guarantees its accompanying international standards.

The impact of this initiative is not limited to improving the quality of care for patients, but its goals extend to be a leading model in the Arab world, in a way that motivates the launch of similar programs in the region to fill the gap in palliative care for young people with life -threatening diseases.
It is noteworthy that King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center was the first class in the Middle East, Africa and 15 globally, among the list of the best 250 academic health care institutions around the world, according to “Brand Finance” for 2025, and the highest valuable health brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East for the year 2024, as it was included in the list of the best smart hospitals in the world for the year 2025 by the Journal of Newsweek (Newsweek).
