How did Beijing respond? New American restrictions on Chinese electronic chips
On Wednesday, China pledged to respond firmly to the “intimidation” that Washington is trying to exercise against it by imposing new restrictions on Chinese Wrazes from advanced electronic chips.
A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement, “The American measures are typical of unilateral tendency, as they combine intimidation and protection, and undermine the risk of the stability of industry and global supply chains of semiconductors,” threatening to take firm measures in response to this.
Partial suspension of customs fees
China announced last week that it would reduce customs duties on some American products, suspending 24 percentage points from the additional fees imposed under a previous announcement, for a period of 90 days, while maintaining 10%.
The Customs Definitions Committee in the State Council decided to cancel the additional fees imposed under two announcements last April, which amounted to 84% and 125%, respectively.
The committee emphasized that this measure comes in response to the aspirations of producers and consumers in the two countries, and aims to support trade exchange and enhance the global economy.
