Sierra Leone records more than three thousand cases of monkey chickenpox

The Republic of Sierra Leone recorded more than three thousand cases of monkey chickenpox infection since the beginning of this year, distributed to all the country’s provinces, while the number of deaths resulting from the disease reached 14 cases so far. The person in charge of combating “monkey chickenpox” at the Ministry of Health, Mustafa Gallo, said: “We converted the police training center in Fritown into a treatment center for the disease, and also provided 400 beds to accommodate patients who receive treatment.”

Mustafa Gallo indicated that fifty beds were added funded by the “MSF” organization in the city of Kalaba, which is a suburb on the outskirts of the capital, Fritown.

These measures come in light of a noticeable increase in cases of infection with monkeys, which prompted the authorities to take proactive steps to avoid the exacerbation of the health situation in the country.
