Sri Labor Minister: The facilities are a global humanitarian issue that requires sustainable solutions and international cooperation

Abu Dhabi, May 28/ WAM/ His Excellency Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Minister of Labor in Sri Lanka and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, stressed that the utilities sector is no longer seen as a service commodity, but also represents a central global issue that affects the life of humanity and the well -being of humanity during the coming decades, stressing that the current challenges in this sector impose the necessity of joint action on a global level to find solutions based on the principles of sustainability And integrated management.
This came during the participation of His Excellency in the activities of the World Facilities Conference 2025, which is a strategic platform that brings together a group of decision makers and experts from all over the world to discuss the future of energy, water and biological infrastructure.
His Excellency explained that the conference constitutes a valuable opportunity to exchange visions and experiences, and engage in constructive dialogues with representatives of governments, international agencies, investment institutions, and the media, in order to expand the horizons of cooperation and build sustainable partnerships to meet the complex challenges that the utilities sector is going through.
His Excellency Dr. Fernando said in a statement to Emirates News Agency “WAM”, that Sri Lanka has developed an ambitious plan for the gradual transformation to renewable energy, aiming to secure 70% of its energy needs from sustainable sources by 2030, with a looked to reach 100% in the long term, in line with global trends to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate the effects of climate change.
With regard to the water sector, His Excellency pointed out that Sri Lanka is a country rich in water resources since ancient times, but some areas have begun to witness increasing challenges in obtaining clean drinking water, which requires adopting innovative strategies and establishing effective partnerships with international financing institutions, such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank, as well as enhancing community water management practices.
He stressed the importance of exploring new models for partnership, especially what is known as “Public-Public-Partnerships”, as an effective mechanism for financing and implementing biological facilities projects, and achieving sustainable development in the long run.
His Excellency described the topics raised in the conference as a high degree of importance and was raised the appropriate time, stressing that energy and water issues have become a serious global discussion, especially in light of the urgent need to move from relying on traditional energy sources to renewable energy, in a way that guarantees a more sustainable and fair future for future generations.
