In a historic precedent… Trump’s signature will appear on the US currency

The US Treasury Department announced that US banknotes will bear the signature of President Donald Trump to celebrate the 250th anniversary of US independence, in the first step of its kind for a sitting president, while the signature of the US Treasurer will be removed from US banknotes for the first time in 165 years.
The ministry said in a statement reported by Reuters that the first $100 banknotes bearing Trump’s signature and the signature of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent will be printed in June, followed by other banknotes in subsequent months.
The Treasury Department’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing is currently still producing banknotes bearing the signatures of former President Joe Biden’s Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen, and Treasurer Lynn Malerba.
Malerba will be the last in a continuous series of treasurers whose signatures have appeared on the US federal currency since 1861, when the US government first issued it.
Changing the signature is the latest effort by the Trump administration and its allies to put the president’s name on government buildings, institutions, programs, warships, and coins.
Treasury Department officials confirmed that the general design of the banknotes will not change, except for replacing Trump’s signature with the Treasurer’s signature.
