The UAE expects two memoranda of understanding with Spain and Morocco to enhance cooperation in industrial property

Geneva, July 13 / WAM / The Ministry of Economy and Tourism signed two memoranda of understanding with both the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, and the Moroccan Office for Industrial and Commercial Property, with the aim of enhancing cooperation in developing the intellectual property system in its various applications in the UAE according to best global practices.

The signature witnessed by His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, on the sidelines of the participation of the state delegation in the meetings of the members of the member states of the 66th Intellectual Property Organization held in Geneva.

The areas of cooperation include a number of topics related to enhancing the intellectual property environment, the most prominent of which are support for digital transformation, qualification of competencies, expanding coordination and cooperation in the fields of industrial property and recording patents.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri emphasized that the signing of the two agreements comes within the framework of the continuous efforts of the UAE to enhance the intellectual property environment, and to expand areas of cooperation with international partners to develop the institutional and legislative structure related to innovation, indicating that the partnership with both Spain and Morocco represents a qualitative step towards exchanging specialized experiences in the recording of patents, industrial ownership, and adopting advanced digital tools such as intelligence Artificial in the fields of research and classification.

He pointed to the keenness to take advantage of the best international experiences in building a flexible system for the protection of intellectual property, which includes enhancing the efficiency of registration operations, developing compliance procedures, and intensifying training programs directed to technical cadres, in a way that contributes to enabling innovators and small and medium -sized companies, and enhances the competitiveness of the national economy, and the UAE’s targets keep pace with a sustainable knowledge economy based on technology and scientific research.

In detail, the ministry signed a memorandum of understanding with the Spanish Office of Patents and Trademarks, with the aim of enhancing cooperation between the two sides in a number of areas and applications of intellectual property protection and patent registration, including the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices in managing and protecting intellectual property rights, supporting scientific research and innovation activities, and localization of emerging technology, including artificial intelligence applications in the areas of patent management, research and classification.

The areas of cooperation also include organizing specialized training programs for examiners in various branches of industrial property, in addition to holding joint workshops and seminars targeting stakeholders from various sectors, while paying special attention to supporting small and medium -sized companies, in a way that contributes to enhancing institutional capabilities and exchanging practical experiences between the two countries.

The Ministry also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Moroccan Office for Industrial and Commercial Property, regarding cooperation in the field of industrial property, as the memo aims to exchange institutional knowledge and technical expertise in managing and organizing industrial property, seeing the latest relevant technologies and legislation, and organizing specialized training programs.

The memorandum also includes the implementation of joint awareness campaigns, the promotion of legal compliance, and the development of legal protection procedures, by forming a joint working group from both sides that prepares work plans and providing the necessary technical support, in order to enhance institutional coordination and achieve the strategic goals of cooperation.
