Collaborate"Emirates Nuclear Energy" and "Westinghaus" To accelerate the development of nuclear energy in America

Washington, July 25/ WAM/ Emirates Nuclear Energy Company and Westinghaus Electricity Company, yesterday in Washington, signed a memorandum of understanding to explore cooperation opportunities in developing and spreading advanced nuclear energy solutions in the United States of America.

The memorandum is in line with the United States’ priorities to double nuclear energy production four times by 2050 to meet the increasing demand for energy, including expansion of the artificial intelligence and technology sectors, as this cooperation will focus on the global levels of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company in developing and operating large nuclear power plants, and Westinghaus’s pioneering technologies in the nuclear energy sector.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the two companies will explore ways to accelerate the spread of the fully licensed “AP1000®” reactor for construction in the United States, as the Emirates nuclear energy and “Westinghaus” will discuss ways to cooperate in a wide range of opportunities, including new nuclear energy projects and restart the projects parked in the United States, as well as developing commercial and operational models to spread reactors “AP1000®”, in addition to identifying cooperation opportunities in fuel supply chains, operating services, and maintenance.

His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company, said that the world is heading towards nuclear energy as a maximum necessity to provide clean and reliable basic load electricity to meet energy demand and at the same time protecting electricity networks, and thanks to the company’s record in developing one of the most advanced nuclear energy programs in the world, it brings cooperation with Westinghaus company two leaders in the nuclear energy sector.

His Excellency added that this cooperation represents an important step in supporting the United States’ ambitions to accelerate the increased production capacity of nuclear energy, which enhances the established partnership in the energy sector between the UAE and the United States of America.

For his part, Dan Sumner, CEO of Westinghaus, said that the United States has an ambitious vision to create 10 large nuclear reactors by 2030, and Westinghaus is closely cooperated with its partners in the sector to achieve this, and the “AP1000®” technology of the company is the only reactor that is fully licensed and prepared for construction and currently available to achieve this goal.

The Memorandum of Understanding comes within the framework of the broader Emirates Nuclear Energy Company strategy in searching for investment and cooperation and developing and publishing nuclear energy technologies globally, in order to support the process of accelerating the development of peaceful nuclear energy projects and enhancing energy security and sustainability.

By sharing the experiences and visions gained from the commercial operation of the Baraka nuclear energy stations, the company supports the countries and other institutions that seek to integrate nuclear energy into its clean energy strategies, and to accelerate the growth of nuclear energy responsible, to meet the growing global demand for energy, as well as strengthening electricity networks.
