Minister of Economy: The opening of the “INTA” office in Dubai enhances the innovation and intellectual property protection environment

Dubai, October 6 / WAM / The International Association of brands “InTA” opened its representative office for the Middle East and North Africa at the Dubai International Financial Center, in a move that is an important expansion in the presence of the association at the global level, and in support of the efforts to protect intellectual property rights and develop innovation systems in the region.
The opening of the office was attended by His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, His Excellency Major General Dr. Abdul Quddus Al -Obaidli, President of the Emirates Intellectual Property Association, Atian Sanz de Assaido, CEO of the International Association of Brands “INTA”, and a number of leaders and intellectual property experts from different countries of the world.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq said: The UAE has succeeded in establishing an integrated organizational and legislative framework for intellectual property, as it is an important contributor to the development of the new economy sectors, enhancing the competitiveness of the business environment and attracting foreign investment to the Emirati market A pioneer of creative industries, in line with the determinants of the “UAE 2031” vision to be the global center for the new economy.
His Excellency Ben Touk welcomed the opening of the International Association of Brands of Trademarks in Dubai, to be the first representative office for the association in the Middle East and North Africa region, indicating that it is a strategic step that reflects the UAE’s commitment to strengthening the environment of innovation and protecting intellectual property in a sustainable manner, and represents an investment in the future of intellectual property in the region, and direct support for the prosperity of local brands, as well as strengthening the legislative system And organizational to protect and develop these unfinished assets.
His Excellency stressed that Dubai’s hosting of the association’s annual meeting in 2029 enhances the position of the UAE as a global center for economic governance, and confirms its readiness in terms of infrastructure, digital, organizational and institutional frameworks of intellectual property, especially the development of unfinished assets, as well as its economic vision that places innovation and intellectual property as a major engine for sustainable growth.
In the same context, His Excellency explained that the unfinished assets, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and data, were estimated at less than their real value and did not have a fair financial evaluation, but today we are witnessing a radical shift, as these assets are the primary driver of growth and competitive advantage and represents more than 90% of the total market value of leading companies.
He pointed to the importance of developing practical models and clear measurement indicators that contribute to the transformation of intellectual property from legal concepts into evaluation economic tools, which enables institutions to calculate the value of their intellectual assets and attract investments based on them, stressing that the Ministry of Economy and Tourism continues its efforts in enabling emerging projects by providing innovative tools to finance their intellectual assets and evaluate them, which contributes to converting innovation into a sustainable economic value.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq reviewed the most prominent indicators achieved by the intellectual property sector in the country by the end of September 2025, where the total number of national and international brands registered in the Emirates reached 402,311 sign, while the total registered intellectual works reached 23,829 works, while 40,925 patent registration requests were received.
The total number of patents registered in the country during the same period reached 7,915 patents, compared to 11,346 registered industrial models.
For his part, His Excellency Major General Dr. Abdul Quddus Al -Obaidli, President of the Emirates Intellectual Property Association, said that the opening of the International Association of Trademarks in Dubai represents a strategic step that reflects the position that the UAE occupies on the map of knowledge and innovation economy, and makes Dubai an advanced center for international cooperation in this field.
He explained that the world is witnessing a qualitative shift in the nature of wealth, as it has become more than 90% of the value of the major companies listed in the “S& P 500” index dating back to unfinished assets such as brands, patents, software and data.
He pointed out that the UAE aims to raise the contribution of the creative economy and intellectual property to 5% of the gross domestic product by 2031.
