A prominent Saudi participation in the 2025 Nature Conservation Conference

Abu Dhabi, 9 October / WAM / The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is participating with a high-level delegation in the Nature Conservation 2025 conference in Abu Dhabi, where it will showcase its most prominent initiatives in the fields of sustainability and climate, as part of its vision aimed at achieving a balance between economic development and the preservation of natural resources.
Ahmed Al-Qarni, the official spokesman for the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority, confirmed that the Authority is considered the second largest royal reserve in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with an area estimated at about 91,500 square kilometers in the northeast of the Kingdom, indicating that the Authority is working on three main strategic goals that include preserving nature, supporting local communities, and developing eco-tourism.
He explained that the first goal, which is to preserve nature, comes through raising the percentage of vegetation cover and resettling endangered fungal organisms, as the Authority has succeeded during the past three years in raising the vegetation cover from 1.5% to about 9%, in addition to resettling a number of species that have not existed in the region for about 100 years.
He added that the Authority attaches great importance to supporting local communities within the reserve by providing economic opportunities and direct jobs, and implementing sustainable grazing programs that contribute to improving the quality of life for local residents.
Regarding eco-tourism, Al-Qarni pointed out that the Authority has succeeded in developing unique tourist destinations within the reserve, including “Al-Haski Caravans,” eco-camps, and “dark sky” sites, which are among the most prominent areas in the Kingdom for watching the stars and enjoying pristine nature.
He noted that the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve recently joined the “Man and the Biosphere” program of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), becoming the first royal reserve in the Kingdom to obtain this accreditation, in appreciation of its efforts to preserve nature and achieve sustainable development over the past years.
