After receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, Machado presents it to Trump

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado announced on Friday that she is dedicating her award to US President Donald Trump, in recognition of his continued support for democratic rights in Venezuela and its struggle for a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.

The Norwegian committee responsible for the award said in a statement that Machado received the Nobel Peace Prize “for her promotion of the democratic rights of the people of Venezuela and her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.” Machado dedicated her award to the suffering Venezuelan people and to President Trump for his strong support of her cause.

It is noteworthy that Trump has expressed his support for Machado since January, praising her peaceful expression of the will of the Venezuelan people through massive demonstrations against the regime, while the Nobel Committee praised her courageous and innovative stance in confronting the authoritarian Venezuelan state for years, stressing that her efforts were peaceful, democratic, and innovative at the same time.

The committee also stated that Machado fulfilled all three criteria for selecting the winner of the Peace Prize in accordance with Alfred Nobel’s will: disarmament, brotherhood among nations, and peace conferences, expressing its appreciation for her role in uniting the opposition and not backing down in the face of tyranny, while always striving to achieve a peaceful transition to democracy.
