Hamdan bin Zayed receives Maryam Al Muhairi and reviews the company’s efforts "Prairie" In supporting environmental sustainability and forest management techniques
ABU DHABI, 16 October / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, received, at Al Saif Palace in Abu Dhabi, Her Excellency Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mawarid Holding Company.
During the meeting, His Highness was briefed on the most prominent initiatives and achievements of Barari Natural Resources Company, a subsidiary of Mawarid Holding, which is considered one of the leading companies in the UAE in the field of environmental and forest management, and is responsible for maintaining and developing large areas of forest assets in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
His Highness listened to an explanation about the latest sustainable technologies that the company employs in the fields of soil, energy and water, in a way that enhances sustainability, biodiversity and climate resilience.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed was also briefed on the details of Liquid Natural Clay (LNC), a patented technology that transforms desert sandy soil into fertile land capable of retaining moisture, allowing plants to grow using up to 60% less water while increasing crop productivity.
Barari Company – through its subsidiary Soyl – holds the exclusive license and distribution of this technology in the UAE, and it is produced locally within the project sites. The technology has been tested by the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA).
Masdar City announced this technology in its Environmental Sustainability, Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance report, and it received global recognition from prestigious institutions such as the World Economic Forum, the European Union, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in recognition of its environmental impact in greening deserts, rationalizing water, and regenerating agricultural lands.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” pays great attention to protecting the environment, developing forests, and consolidating the principles of sustainability. His Highness pointed out that adopting innovative solutions such as liquid natural clay technology reflects the country’s commitment to scientific research and modern technologies to serve the goals of climate neutrality 2050, and achieve its environmental and food security by ensuring It keeps pace with the aspirations of the wise leadership for a more sustainable future.
LNC technology enhances environmental efficiency by reducing groundwater consumption by up to 60%, and reducing carbon emissions by about 30%, while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
For her part, Her Excellency Maryam Al Muhairi expressed her appreciation for His Highness’s continued support of sustainability projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, stressing that Barari Company is continuing to expand the applications of LNC technology locally to contribute to enhancing food and water security, and protecting ecosystems in the UAE.
