DUBAI, 4th November, 2018 (WAM) – Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has issued a tender for all eligible entities to implement the seventh phase project of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which includes the installation of solar photovoltaic energy systems with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts and battery energy storage systems with a capacity of 1,400 megawatts for six hours, providing a total storage capacity of 8,400 megawatt hours, making it one of the largest enhanced solar energy projects. storage in the world.
The project, which will be implemented according to the independent energy producer model, supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050 for the Emirate of Dubai to provide 100% of energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
So far, the Authority has received more than 49 expressions of interest letters requesting a qualification application document from companies wishing to participate in the implementation of the seventh phase of the complex, which was put on the market on May 16, 2025, while the tender was issued to qualified developers on October 20, 2025.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, stressed that this pioneering project comes in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him,” to make Dubai a global center for clean energy and the green economy.
His Excellency said that the seventh phase of the complex represents an important strategic step within the Authority’s ongoing efforts to diversify the energy mix in the emirate and increase the share of renewable and clean energy, thus enhancing Dubai’s leadership in adopting the latest sustainable energy production and storage technologies, and supporting the achievement of carbon neutrality goals by 2050.
He added: “We have raised the target percentage of renewable energy in Dubai’s energy mix to 36% by 2030 (compared to the originally planned 25%). With the completion of Phase 7, the total planned production capacity of the complex will rise to 8,060 megawatts by 2030, contributing to reducing carbon emissions by more than 8.5 million tons annually.”
The complex’s current production capacity is 3,860 MW, with an additional 800 MW under construction.
