The Foreign Minister discusses the situation in the Middle East with the US President’s senior advisor for Arab and African affairs

Discussed by Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, today, Saturday, November 15, via phone call, developments in the situation in Sudan.

  Minister Abdel-Ati reiterated the importance of a ceasefire and creating conditions to launch a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, referring to the results of his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11. The Minister of Foreign Affairs condemned the horrific atrocities and violations witnessed in the city of El Fasher, calling for concerted regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese people and their national institutions.

 Minister Abdel-Aty also stressed the importance of implementing the Quartet statement on Sudan in all its provisions, including achieving a comprehensive humanitarian truce in preparation for launching a sustainable political process that guarantees the unity of the Sudanese state and its institutions. The call also addressed the situation in the Great Lakes region, where Minister Abdel-Ati affirmed Egypt’s readiness to engage in all regional and international efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement of the conflict in eastern Democratic Congo, indicating Egypt’s full support for the ongoing American mediation efforts in Doha and the important step it represents towards restoring stability in the region, which contributes to achieving the aspirations of the peoples of the continent towards stability and prosperity.

With regard to the situation in Gaza, the minister indicated Abdel Ati referred to the statement issued yesterday, November 14, which reflected support for the adoption of the draft Security Council resolution on the Palestinian issue, stressing the importance of moving forward with the implementation of the plan that was launched during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, which provides a practical path for Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in a way that consolidates peace and stability in the entire region. Mobilizing regional and international support to ensure the effective implementation of the early recovery and reconstruction plan, in a way that contributes to alleviating the human suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people.
