Grossi before the meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency: We play a decisive role for peace and security

Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, stressed that the agency plays a crucial role for peace and security and that it fulfills the world’s priorities from non-proliferation to economic development.
At the opening of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting today, Grossi said that IAEA inspectors returned to the Republic of Iran and conducted inspections and designed information verification operations in several facilities that were not affected by the military attacks in June. Grossi added that greater engagement is needed to restore full inspections, including at damaged sites, for Iran to fulfill its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty Agreement.
Grossi said he is in regular contact with Tehran and urges Iran to facilitate the agency’s access to its damaged facilities, particularly its stockpiles of low-enriched and high-enriched uranium. Enrichment, the situation of which needs to be urgently addressed.
