The Knesset approves in the first reading the cessation of supplying facilities "UNRWA" With water and electricity

Today, Wednesday, the General Assembly of the Israeli Knesset approved, in the first reading, the government draft law amending the law on stopping the activity of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), after it gained the support of 28 members of the Knesset, against the opposition of 8 members. After voting, the law was referred to the Knesset Committee to determine the committee responsible for following up on it.
The amendment stipulates that “water and electricity providers will not supply any property in which the registered consumer is UNRWA,” in addition to “state grants” The authority to “control lands registered with the Israel Lands Authority and used by UNRWA.”
The amendment came against the background of the law that the Knesset had approved, which prohibits any “connection” between state authorities and UNRWA, which sparked a debate about whether water and electricity services are considered within this “link”.
Through the new amendment, the occupation government seeks to clarify that the ban also includes the aforementioned vital services, such as supplying properties used by UNRWA with water and electricity, as well as seizing properties used by the agency, especially in occupied Jerusalem.
The new draft law comes within the framework of the occupation’s efforts to undermine the work of UNRWA. And attempts to liquidate the Palestinian refugee issue.
