Floods in Southeast Asia claim more than 300 lives in Thailand and Indonesia

In Thailand, government spokesman Siriyapong Angkasakulkiat said on Friday afternoon that "The total number of deaths in the southern governorates rose to 145"

The south was the most affected, as residents of Hat Yai were forced to cling to the rooftops of houses waiting to be rescued by boats.

A representative of a local hospital said on Friday that more than a hundred people had died in Songkhla alone, and that the main morgue was no longer able to receive more dead.

The government announced on Friday the suspension of the duties of the head of the Hat Yai region, accusing him of failing to deal with the floods.

On the island of Sumatra, western Indonesia, floods caused Soilslides killed at least 174 people and left ten others missing, according to a new toll.
