France welcomed the signing of the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda in the American capital, Washington.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated – in a statement today, Friday – that this progress was achieved thanks to the commitment of all parties, the efforts of the American and Qatari mediators, the support of Togo, the African Union mediator, and the countries of the region that were present in Washington.

France also calls on all parties to implement the provisions of the Washington Peace Agreement immediately, stressing that it will continue to mobilize its forces to ensure that the peace momentum led by the Washington Summit, the Doha mediation, and the efforts of the African Union are translated into concrete and rapid measures for the people of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, in continuation of the efforts made at the Conference to Support Peace and Prosperity in the Great Lakes Region, which was held in Paris on October 30. Noting that it will work to implement the declared commitments, especially with regard to With the arrival of humanitarian aid and support for the displaced, in close coordination with ongoing mediation efforts and implementation of the Washington Agreement. 

It should be noted that the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda signed a peace agreement yesterday, Thursday, in Washington, DC, sponsored by US President Donald Trump, which aims to end years of tension and conflict in eastern Congo, and opens the door to security and economic cooperation between the two countries.
