Guterres calls for restraint and a return to dialogue after renewed clashes between Cambodia and Thailand

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed grave concern over reports of renewed armed clashes between Cambodia and Thailand, which reportedly included air strikes and the movement of heavy military equipment in border areas.
The UN Secretary-General’s spokesman said in a statement that Guterres urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any steps that might lead to further conflict. Escalation.
The statement also indicated that the border conflict between the two countries has already resulted in civilian casualties, damage to infrastructure, and the displacement of residents on both sides of the border, which requires urgent action to protect civilians and facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid.
The Secretary-General renewed his call for the two parties to return to work within the framework of the joint declaration signed in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, and to commit to a ceasefire and implement calming and confidence-building measures. It also called for taking advantage of all available dialogue mechanisms to reach a lasting solution to the conflict through peaceful means.
The statement stressed that the United Nations is ready to support all efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability and development in the region.
