Arrests and executions… International accusations against the Venezuelan National Guard of committing crimes
In its latest report on Thursday, a United Nations mission stated that , a military force charged with maintaining public order, committed relating to human rights and for more than a decade.
This UN-mandated mission confirmed that members of the Bolivarian National Guard had committed executions, arbitrary arrests, and acts of sexual violence.

It also indicated that torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment (…) had been committed in the context of protests and systematic political persecution since 2014."
In September 2019, the United Nations strengthened its monitoring of the situation in Venezuela through the Human Rights Council establishing this independent international fact-finding mission.
The security forces of Nicolas Maduro’s government, including the National Guard and the police, are often accused of committing violations, especially during the suppression of opposition demonstrations.
